About Cecilia Pineda Feret, Online Presence Developer, New York
You want to grow & establish your brand, your network. With my marketing/communication knowledge & your professional expertise together we can connect & develop ideas, programs, people, & organizations.
I like to think that this blog is another tool I can use to share and help with the above. You are probably thinking: Hmmmm. But, why another blog on communications and the now almost mainstream social media arena? Back in 2005 I started a blog about my restaurant, but I was discouraged by the lack of support at the time, (They wanted to focus on the static Website) so I stopped the blog soon after I started it. Pfffft. Whatever. Ask me if you want to know, but I won’t waste the space here.
If you are going to pour your heart and soul into your career or any efforts related to your life, you should be willing to talk about that something all day and even all night, anywhere and everywhere. I thought I was doing that on plenty of channels. Then my professional network encouraged me to better preserve ownership of what I had been writing on Facebook’s Links and Notes.
So, I thought, “Oh, what the hell, at this point I’ll be the billionth blog. But I’ll still continue with Twitter, and LinkedIn, and Facebook and the multitude of other ways that now exist to connect. A blog is now an interactive personal web site and I have talked about having one for years.”
As I was helping people to develop their own careers and assisting them with their job search (since 1994), I was slowly trying to weave my own career out of my interests in connecting people and organizations, creating synergy, helping them to grow and create something whether tangible or intangible.
I want to wake up every day knowing that I am going to spend another day, and maybe night, helping people, companies, products or just ideas connect. OK, it’s not the microfinance career I had been considering transitioning into, but it definitely has kept my attention nonstop for the past few years. Oooh, shiny!
This then is a compendium of my thoughts on subjects ranging from the general, usually in communications and media, especially social media, to the more specific such as my latest obsession for the next gadget that comes along (The BlackBerry Tour 9630!) or wondering why something is said or done a certain way when it seems so obvious that it should have been said or done ANOTHER way. Ayayay.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, the title of my blog, “Splash, Then Ripples,” describes the figurative image of someone starting a message, the splash, and then, we see the ripples, the messages being communicated out from the starting point. Ever emanating and sometimes changing as they radiate out even over different channels.
This image is used throughout the communications industry. For example, the word and the image we envision when we read it-see it-hear it helps explain Ripple6.com ’s choice of the word for its company name as well as the choice for many other companies in the media space. Ripple . . .it sounds nice doesn’t it?. . .As for Splash, I have always had a weakness for onomatopoeia (and alliteration, too!)
If you have a better name for this blog and are willing to give it up (and all legal claims), let me know
I’m listening.
